How to Apply, Step by Step

Take a closer look at MCC by checking out our majors and programs. Each is led by a team of award-winning professors dedicated to teaching, offering an unmatched value in college education. If you need help choosing a course of study, our admissions counselors can speak with you personally to advise you of all your academic choices.
If you’re planning to move on to a four-year school, check out MCC’s unique transfer programs. You’ll find out just how valuable your MCC education can be.
Note: International students are not eligible for admission to any one-year certificate programs, only to two-year Associate Degree programs. International students are not eligible for direct admission into the allied health programs (Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Surgical Technology, Clinical Lab Technology, Radiologic Technology) or the Automotive Technology programs. Allied health and automotive programs are competitive admission programs, requiring successful completion of several pre-requisite courses prior to acceptance. Interested students may enroll at MCC into alternative academic programs (e.g. Liberal Arts, Health Studies, etc.), complete the pre-requisites and later apply to these competitive admission programs. Please contact internationaladmissions@lixubing.com with any questions about the competitive admission programs.
Here are the steps to apply to MCC as an international student:
- If you are applying for admission to multiple colleges/universities in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, you can fill out and submit the SUNY application. There is a $50 application fee for the SUNY application. You will be prompted to select Monroe Community College within the SUNY application from a list of campuses. If you are applying only to Monroe Community College, please fill out and submit the MCC application. There is no application fee. It is recommended to apply by June 1 for fall admission, or November 15 for spring admission, to allow sufficient time for the F-1 visa process.
- Submit the following supporting documents:
- High school transcripts: Submit your official high school transcripts (marks sheets, exam results, certificates). Photocopied transcripts are acceptable as long as they bear an original signature or certification from a school official. Transcripts must be in English and include proof of graduation or completion.
- English language proficiency: You must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if English is not your native or first language. We also accept the Duolingo English Test! MCC requires a minimum score of 55 on internet-based TOEFL, 5.5 band score on IELTS, or a minimum score of 80 on Duolingo to be considered for admission. To have your TOEFL test score sent to MCC, use school code 2429.
Note: Students who submit a TOEFL iBT score between 55-69, an IELTS score between 5.5-6.0, or Duolingo score between 80-95 will meet our Admission requirements to the College. However, students will be required to take an ESOL placement test upon arrival. These students may require ESOL support courses in addition to their academic program courses, but only for the first 1-2 semesters of study. Automatic placement into the ENG 101 College Composition course requires a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 70, a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, or a minimum Duolingo score of 100.
- Financial documentation: Submit official bank statements showing availability of sufficient funds to pay for at least one year of study AND if supported by a sponsor, a completed SUNY International Student Financial Statement signed and stamped by your sponsor's bank and sponsor. The proof of financial support is required of all F-1 applicants seeking a Certificate of Visa Eligibility (Form I-20). The statements should be current, official and written in English.
- Photo identification – Provide a copy of the ID page of your passport.
- College transcripts (if applicable): Submit official transcripts of all post-secondary coursework. If you wish to transfer foreign college credit to MCC, you must use a credential evaluation service such as World Education Services (WES).

Below is a list of estimated annual expenses, which is used to determine how much you or your financial sponsor will need to demonstrate that you have available to fund your education at MCC:
Item | Cost |
---|---|
Non-resident Tuition (Fall & Spring Semesters): | $10,100 |
College Fees: | $1,498 |
On-campus Housing (optional) | $7,300 |
Food (Groceries estimate, not billed by the College) | $3,500 |
Books & Supplies | $1,000 |
Mandatory International Student Health Insurance: | $2,532 |
Total Minimum Budget | $25,930 |
NOTE: The costs listed above are an estimate based on the current or previous year. Monroe Community College reserves the right to make changes to tuition, fees and residence hall charges annually. Medical insurance costs also update annually.
As an international student, you are required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security agency to provide documented evidence of your financial resources for the first full academic year (9 months/2 semesters) before MCC can issue the Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for F-1 student visa).
For any student who wishes to have a dependent family member accompany them to the U.S., you must demonstrate additional financial support in the amount of $3,500 for dependent child and/or $7,000 for spouse.
Bills for tuition and fees are created at the time of class registration each semester (fall and spring) and payment instructions will be included with your bill. Please make your payments directly to MCC’s Student Accounts Office.
Students that plan to live off-campus with a housing sponsor (friend or relative) that will NOT charge them for rent will also need to complete and submit the Sponsor’s Affidavit of Free Room.
Students that submit this Sponsor’s Affidavit will not need to demonstrate sufficient funding for on-campus housing. Students that will live off-campus but will pay rent for their living expenses will still need to demonstrate sufficient funding for this. The cost of rent for on-campus housing and off-campus housing in the area are comparable.
Please see the Incoming Students page of the International Services Office for instructions for next steps and arrival instructions.
